Dana Falconberry ‘Though I Didn’t Call It Came’ EP to be released on January 24th

When we started this label 6 years ago I never imagined that we’d have the amazing opportunity to work with such established and respected artists like our newest family member. We are continuing to stretch our reach in to different areas of the country and this time we’ve tapped one of Austin’s absolute gems, Dana Falconberry! Dana is a phenomenal, spellbinding songwriter, guitarist and band leader and we are honored to be putting out her new EP, “Though I Didn’t Call It Came” on January 24th. I’ve been a big Dana fan for many years since being introduced to her music by her touring partner and Crossbill artist Matt Bauer and we are extremely excited about the opportunity of working together and I know you will love the songs that Dana has in store for you.

Hear Dana Falconberry’s Daytrotter Session

See and Hear Dana and Matt Bauer’s newly released Halfway House Session filmed while on tour in Grand Rapids, MI this past summer.

past press:

“One of the city’s ‘most promising singer-songwriters’ and ‘most arresting female vocalists’…” -The Austin Chronicle

“Extremely talented…[her] album has been in constant rotation around here all month.” -Gorilla vs Bear

“One of Austin’s best kept secrets – and hopefully not for much longer…” -Bruce Warren, WXPN

“Falconberry makes music that seems to spring from an unnamed place and time.” -Jeff McCord, Texas Monthly

“It’s lo-fi folk, sure, but don’t expect anything syrupy or whiney. Falconberry can manage intimacy without cheap sentiment.” -The Austinist

“Dana Falconberry puts on a fascinatingly flawless live show, and her best songs are complete with some really beautiful chord progressions that could almost pass for the melancholy melodic fragments of a Cole Porter piece.” -We Shot JR

“Within her voice echoes the legacy of stories long passed down in song, the simple and direct witness to time and perseverance that connects the personal with the communal, worn desperation and youthful defiance, and the anachronistic balance of past and present.” – Doug Freeman, Austin Chronicle

The Loom Debuts First Single, “For The Hooves That Gallop, And The Heels That March”

As Brooklyn’s The Loom prepares for the release of their debut album, Teeth, on November 1st from Crossbill Records, they’re happy to share the lead single as a free download. Yesterday, Impose Magazine premiered “For The Hooves That Gallop, And The Heels That March” saying this: “Folk music coasted on self-loathing, binge drinking and meek hearts in a decade of depression, corruption and war, as though there weren’t bigger problems than your dog dying under the porch. There’s no finer hour to change the conversation. Let’s hope The Loom’s “For The Hooves That Gallop…” is the beginning of a new discourse in folk.”

Matt Bauer Releases Latest Video,”White Lakes”, Pop Matters Premieres

Pop Matters had some very nice things to say about Matt Bauer today (“Great understated orchestral folk-pop is hard to find, but Brooklyn’s Matt Bauer nails it.”) and debuted the latest video from his record “The Jessamine County Book of the Living”, the beautifully orchestrated “White Lakes”. Take a look at images Bauer collected over three months of touring this summer.

Crossbill Records Welcomes The Loom

The Loom

It is with great pleasure that Crossbill Records introduces our new member of the family, The Loom out of Brooklyn. We will be releasing The Loom’s first full length record, “Teeth” on November 1st on LP/CD and MP3 and will be announcing pre-sale information in the coming weeks.

The Loom first garnered our attention when we discovered their “Last Light EP”. I played it quite regularly on my radio show and could immediately hear the promise of the band. Then while in NYC in the summer of 2010 I stumbled upon and was then blown away by a Loom performance at the Mercury Lounge that piqued my interest even more. When it came time to travel to Austin for SXSW this past March I made it a top priority to see the band perform once again and make a strong connection. We take great consideration when signing a band and Crossbill has always emphasized cultivating the relationship and creativity between the band and the label. We’re ecstatic to have formed this relationship with The Loom and our looking forward to the very near future as we prep the release of “Teeth”.

THE NEW YORKER:
“Beloved Brooklyn sextet the Loom…have lately been guiding their chamber-folk sound to decidedly louder sonic territory.”

PASTE MAGAZINE – BEST OF WHAT’S NEXT:
“These days, the band’s intra-band camaraderie is palpable. That perhaps-unlikely closeness especially comes out on stage…weaving rich sonic tapestries with an intangible joy.”

NEW YORK TIMES:
“Are you looking for the next big thing? If it’s folk: The Loom”
