As Brooklyn’s The Loom prepares for the release of their debut album, Teeth, on November 1st from Crossbill Records, they’re happy to share the lead single as a free download. Yesterday, Impose Magazine premiered “For The Hooves That Gallop, And The Heels That March” saying this: “Folk music coasted on self-loathing, binge drinking and meek hearts in a decade of depression, corruption and war, as though there weren’t bigger problems than your dog dying under the porch. There’s no finer hour to change the conversation. Let’s hope The Loom’s “For The Hooves That Gallop…” is the beginning of a new discourse in folk.”
Pop Matters had some very nice things to say about Matt Bauer today (“Great understated orchestral folk-pop is hard to find, but Brooklyn’s Matt Bauer nails it.”) and debuted the latest video from his record “The Jessamine County Book of the Living”, the beautifully orchestrated “White Lakes”. Take a look at images Bauer collected over three months of touring this summer.
Teddy Briggs and the Appetite crew wrapped up their Los Angeles trip by recording a session at Dub Lab. Get a good taste of the band’s live vibe right here.
The latest Appetite video premiered at BAEBLE.com and it stars a bear with a serious strawberry obsession. Thanks to Adam Davies for creating a fantastic video representation of this Appetite favorite. We love it!
It is with great pleasure that Crossbill Records introduces our new member of the family, The Loom out of Brooklyn. We will be releasing The Loom’s first full length record, “Teeth” on November 1st on LP/CD and MP3 and will be announcing pre-sale information in the coming weeks.
The Loom first garnered our attention when we discovered their “Last Light EP”. I played it quite regularly on my radio show and could immediately hear the promise of the band. Then while in NYC in the summer of 2010 I stumbled upon and was then blown away by a Loom performance at the Mercury Lounge that piqued my interest even more. When it came time to travel to Austin for SXSW this past March I made it a top priority to see the band perform once again and make a strong connection. We take great consideration when signing a band and Crossbill has always emphasized cultivating the relationship and creativity between the band and the label. We’re ecstatic to have formed this relationship with The Loom and our looking forward to the very near future as we prep the release of “Teeth”.
THE NEW YORKER:
“Beloved Brooklyn sextet the Loom…have lately been guiding their chamber-folk sound to decidedly louder sonic territory.”
PASTE MAGAZINE – BEST OF WHAT’S NEXT:
“These days, the band’s intra-band camaraderie is palpable. That perhaps-unlikely closeness especially comes out on stage…weaving rich sonic tapestries with an intangible joy.”
NEW YORK TIMES:
“Are you looking for the next big thing? If it’s folk: The Loom”
Thanks to the super troopers over at Under The Radar and My Old Kentucky Blog for rocking the video and sprinkling in some kind words about the record. BIG THANKS!
It’s been a busy year and another Crossbill record release day is upon us. This time we’ve unveiled a special 4 song digital EP called the “Gnomes EP”. Sea of Bees is following up the highly acclaimed “Songs For the Ravens” with this unique offering. The title track is quietly disarming, propelled by a characteristic child-like vocal, wrapping intimate musings against a backdrop of rhythmic guitar riffs. It is alluring in its mysterious and fragmented beauty and a clear album highlight. ‘Gnomes’ is accompanied by a remix by a Tunng remix – the folk experimentalists contort the original, chopping the vocals in amongst Eastern strings, both urgent and exhilarating. ‘Don’t Fear The Reaper’ is a cover of Blue Oyster Cult and sees Sea Of Bees collaborate with Neal Casal who once again showcases his fine craftsmanship, having been a key member of Ryan Adam’s The Cardinals. To round off the EP ‘With Or Without You’ is a delicate, wistful cover of the U2 classic. It’s available at all digital outlets including iTunes, Amazon and Emusic NOW!
Appetite’s “Scattered Smothered Covered” is available everywhere TODAY. ITUNES, AMAZON and all the other digital outlets. You can order the record directly from the Crossbill site in the SHOP. Teddy and the band will be at Sophia’s this Friday to celebrate the Davis record release show and then in Sacramento at The Bows and Arrows Collective on September 9th.
Thanks to the perpetually hyper creative Sean Stout at TERROREYES.TV for streaming “Scattered Smothered Covered” today and giving music fans a preview of the brilliant Appetite record that will be available everywhere on Tuesday, August 16th. We’d love to put your ORDER in the mail as soon as possible. Take a listen!
